walk of faith
as we wave off our little plane, we take off down the boardwalk towards the new village
{unlike the village we'll travel to next week, this village is a "boardwalk only" town...no roads. and our youngest will tell you that when your bike flies off the boardwalk, with you on it, you'll get soaking wet from landing in the wet tundra}
we knew things were going to be okay when a woman named Faith drove up on her 4-wheeler and offered to carry all our duffle bags to the school
faith is certainly driving us here in more ways than one...i sometimes wonder what goes through our childrens' minds as we venture outside all our comfort zones...holding hands and jumping into the unknown
located right on the river, our new village is so picturesque...and peacefully quiet
we would discover, however, that to fish the "kings" villagers have to travel upriver quite a ways
and here's proof they do! fish drying racks are commonplace in the Alaskan bush. these salmon will dry here for a few weeks and then some will be moved into the smokehouse a few feet away. a constant fire is kept in the smokehouse for 2 more weeks...villagers know when the fish strips are done by looking at them
as we unpack and make the school library our sleeping quarters, we wonder who God will bring tomorrow for Bible School and Basketball...i think if we had known this little sweetie was coming, we would have begun early!

Wonderful photos today and what a little sweetie she is indeed! The fish photo really says a lot about the area.

cathy... between the photos and the music and the words... i just can't help but choke back tears. more, more, more, please!
The picture of them walking toward the village on the boardwalk -- and the description of your plans for the classes and wondering who will show up for them... I can't help but remember the words "how beautiful are the feet of those who bring the gospel to those who have not yet heard....
How incredible of you and your sweet family to set off into parts unknown and LITERALLY carry with you (and not much else) the gospel. You are mavericks! (Alaska has those, I hear...). ;)
You're teaching those kids some life lessons that most adults still haven't learned... trust God, go with His leading, the rest is just details. ;)

You had me at your title. I knew that you would help me through my own walk of faith today. I can't wait to see more, and hear more about your trip.
So lovely!
"faith is certainly driving us here in more ways than one...i sometimes wonder what goes through our childrens' minds as we venture outside all our comfort zones...holding hands and jumping into the unknown"
Such a concept, so full of power.
"Faith"; "holding hands"; and "jumping into the unknown".
The community of the faithful which jumps into the unknown for a higher good -
Such are the acts which can move mountains.
Examples of such heroics are legion.
And yet we need so many more.
You all should be very proud of the company you keep.
